By Car, Bus or Shuttle

From San Jose, there are two routes leading to Dominical.
Cartago-San Isidro-Dominical
This route heads southeast through San Jose to Cartago, where you traverse the Cordillera via the Cerro del Muerte to San Isidro, and descend through the mountains to Dominical. The Cerro del Muerte is a winding road, that can be dangerous at times, but beautiful, reaching altitudes over 10,000 ft. Travel time is 3-4 hours.

This route heads west to the Pacific Coast at Jaco, then swings southward through Quepos and Manuel Antonio. The previous dirt stretch between Quepos and Dominical is completely paved now. A new highway from San Jose to the coast has recently opened as well saving additional time. Travel time is 3-4 hours. This is the best route
if coming from the airport in San Jose.

By Plane

You have several options when coming by plane to Costa Paraiso as well. There are two flight operators that fly from San Jose to the Dominical area. Nature Air flys out of an area in San Jose called Pavas about a 20 min. drive from the international airport. Sansa flys from the international airport. You can either fly into Quepos or Palmar Sur. Palmar Sur is about a 45 min. drive and Quepos is about 30 min. drive away from Costa Paraiso, and taxis are usually always on standby at the airstrips. The flights take about 25 min. Check their websites for flight times and prices:

From Dominical

At the intersection of the roads to Quepos, San Isidro and Dominical, there is a police checkpoint. Go through the checkpoint and cross the Baru river. Immediately to your right is the turnoff to Dominical, but keep going straight for 2 kilometers (1.6 miles) until you see the sign for Costa Paraiso on your right. You’ve arrived!
